What is the role of culture in fostering innovation?

Meet Jessy Antonis – our new in-house recruiter at Blinqx. She’s on a quest to dive into our culture and shared values (Smart Rebels, Ambitious, Human-Centered) and uncover the stories that shape who we are.

In conversation with CEO Ruud van der Kruk, she learns more about the beliefs that drive the organization. This time, Jessy dives into the value “Ambitious. Join her to discover what it really means!

The value “Ambitious” is one of the driving forces within Blinqx. How do you make sure this sticks with every Blinqxer?

“‘For us, ‘ambitious’ is more than just ambition in the traditional sense. It’s about always daring to think big, to act big and, in doing so, continue to break habits. We don’t just want to be a player in the market; we want to become key players in Europe. We do this by pushing boundaries, by challenging the status quo and by continuously striving to improve. It’s not just about being satisfied with what we’ve already achieved, but continuing to feel that ambition every day to strive for more.”

That sounds like a culture where more is always possible. How is this ambition reflected in the day-to-day operations at Blinqx?

“Our ‘Getting things done’ mentality is a good example of that. We don’t focus on the callenges we face, but on the opportunities that lie ahead. This means: the result we achieve is more important than our working hours or work location. I don’t believe in “9 to 5″ and I am not into long meetings, but action. If we want to achieve something, we go for it – with the confidence that we are going to fix it. I would say that as a team we are confident, daring to take risks and even dare to fail if it means we end up stronger. It’s not about doing everything perfect, but about moving forward and showing progress, not afraid to break new ground if the path we’ve laid out doesn’t work (anymore).”


So you encourage a kind of “growth mindset”? How do you see that reflected in the way Blinqx supports its team in their development?

“That’s right. We don’t believe that knowledge and skills are fixed, but that everyone has it in them to grow and learn. That’s why we encourage continuous personal development, no matter what level you are at. We provide room for growth so everyone can excel in their role. This manifests itself in encouraging all colleagues – young, old, trainee, management – to share ideas with each other, show initiative and support each other to not only get the best out of themselves, but also to contribute to the larger goals of the organization.”

What about the goals within Blinqx? Are they also set with an ambitious outlook?

“Absolutely. We deliberately set goals that are big and challenging – often goals that may seem unattainable at first. But that’s exactly what makes them interesting! We keep each other sharp to value the long term over short-term gains. When we wrote down our goals for Blinqx in 2023, no one knew us yet. From that moment, we wanted to become a top-3 player in the Netherlands in five years. Two years later, we are already No. 4. It’s about daring to state ambitious goals and actually living up to them, even if you think they are impossible.”


What would you say to someone considering joining Blinqx and wondering if they would fit into this ambitious culture?

“If you are someone who is not afraid to think big, if you have a passion for software and/or innovation and if you are willing to challenge the status quo, then you have come to the right place. We offer an environment where you can live up to your ambitions, where you have the space to grow and realize your ideas. At Blinqx we expect you to show initiative, to think proactively and to pursue ambitious goals together with your colleagues.
